Nina arrives at our house with a plan – truly, a curriculum – and supplies for creative projects that she has researched online or invented all on her own. Whether practicing writing letters in trays of shaving cream, dying rice and sorting it into colors, making three-dimensional sunflowers out of homemade paint stamps – her projects draw kids in, get them engaged, and teach them new things. On multiple occasions, I’ve come home after several hours out of the house and found them still clustered around the dining room table, working away at something with an impressive level of focus."
